Oh yes it is....

Of all the annoying identity movements under the giant rancid rainbow, what is it that causes militant vegetarians to be the most obnoxious? What is it about the Vegetarian Personality that makes me wish someone would cannibalize them? What is it about being lectured by vegans that makes me want to drive straight to Wendy’s and order a Classic Triple?

Is there a chemical in bean sprouts that causes self-righteousness, or perhaps an enzyme in beef that minimizes sanctimony? If you are what you eat, radical vegetarians must be eating something very unpleasant. They bare their tempeh-nibbling fangs to reveal the rabid hostility that always seems to be a hallmark of those who feel compelled to make a grand public display of their “compassion.” But hilariously, a recent study suggests that “exposure to organic foods” leads people to be less altruistic.

The mouthier vegetarians I’ve known seem to respect all life forms except for those that happen to be in the room with them at any given time. Because they are opposed to animal suffering, they apparently feel entitled to make every human being around them suffer....

Here’s a new concept for you: It’s called the “food chain.” Or the “web of life.” You could learn a lot from it.

I can think of one case in which animals are superior to humans: Animals don’t project their daffy delusions onto us.

Indeed.


It's one thing to be a fussy eater or cut back on red meat consumption for health reasons or even be ruled by a religious edict forbidding meat.


It's the sanctimony one cannot swallow.

The World Is Taking Crazy Pills (Pt. 4)

You know your civilisation is in trouble when the people are overfed, self-entitled and think that being called a slut is somehow empowering.

Let us define the word now so there is no confusion:

A slovenly or unkempt woman. A prostitute. Someone who leases herself out for money. Plumbing.

This is something to aspire to? Where are the Engineer Walks or the Surgeon Walks or even the Events Planning Walks? Why aren't skills or character valued? Isn't that treating women like meat or like- well- sluts?

And isn't being a slut something to be ashamed of? Why hook yourself out? Where is the dignity in that?  Do people honestly think women who are forced into sexual slavery enjoy that line of work? Do they not care? I'm sure if you were the one being sold to a Chinese man so you wouldn't have to return to North Korea, you wouldn't think it was so great.

But that's a problem in another part of the world. The non-white, non-liberal world.

Why on earth is devaluing one's self supposed to be a mark of self-respect? In an era of sexualisation, extreme self-interest, fear of personal responsibility and retardation of every respect, this willing degradation erodes whatever belief one has about humanity (or at least a section of it) as the keystone species of the cosmos. You could aspire to be better than what you are and change the world around you or you could be empty-suit who latches onto causes without forethought. It's up to you.

Maybe one should ask these flighty broads Slut Walk participants what words they would use if they (actually had) found their beta male boyfriends messing around with someone else.

Hhmmmm....

The Toronto demonstration against victim-blaming and in favour of a woman’s right to dress as she pleases without being accused of attracting rape celebrated its first birthday Friday to international acclaim. There are SlutWalks around the world again this year, sadly necessary but still good fun.

The Toronto march took place in extreme heat Friday from Nathan Phillips Square to Queen’s Park during rush hour. It was as exuberant as last year’s despite the fact that since then something known as “the war on women” reached full-throttle.

Last year, it was a Toronto cop’s statement at a York University law seminar that “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized” that inspired two young women, Heather Jarvis and Sonia J.F. Barnett, to set up SlutWalk.

This year, you could plow through minefields of vicious remarks about women. U.S. radio host Rush Limbaugh would get his own hellish half-acre with his “slut” attack on law student Sandra Fluke for testifying in Congress on birth control rights. Birth control? It isn’t enough that women have to take care how they dress in the morning, it’s that they’re not even allowed to stack the odds against getting pregnant. How dare they?

Planned Parenthood, of all things, came under fire in the U.S. As MoveOn.Org reports, the state of Georgia considered changing the legal term for victims of rape, stalking and domestic violence to “accuser.” If you were robbed, though, you’d still be a victim.

A Toronto teenager was applauded for telling his female classmates to dress more modestly. Schoolgirls were shamed for wearing their skirts too short on the subway. (Thank you, middle-aged men, for your emails on this subject.) There’s a weird obsession with how females dress. Eerie is not too strong a word.

Astonishing, the power of words like “slut,” “bitch” and “c---”, especially when combined with “ugly,” “trashy” and “asking for it.” Words can hurt, they can help, but this past year they hurt so much.

They use that word again. I do not think it means what they think it means.

First of all, the police officer who apparently instigated these walks with his “insensitivity” warned these overfed pasty liberal robots- and rightly so- that you will attract the wrong kind of attention when you dress a certain way. It’s sad but it is a fact of life. Ask yourself why you lock your doors. There are evil people out there who enjoy hurting others. Deal with them. Don’t pout like petulant teen-agers trying to stick it to mum and dad. That his words spawned something so ridiculous as “Slut Walks” and not brazen but brief tongue-lashings is indicative of a mindset that must be offended and sport that offense. Be a part of a happening today. You’re Miss Nobody tomorrow. That is the delusional feminist paranoic way!

Where in the world are these Slut Walks? Are they in the Islamic world? Asia? They appear in Toronto, some cities in the US and the UK but there don’t seem to be any everywhere else. Only the pasty get to get to muffin-top underpants, I guess.

Let's take a look at how women must dress or else:

Former Jordan Dubai Islamic Bank (JDIB) employee Vivian Salameh said on Monday that she would take legal action against the bank for arbitrary dismissal after she refused to abide by a new policy requiring female employees to cover their hair.

"As a Christian, I am not expected to cover my hair. I refused to wear a headscarf when the bank asked me to," Salameh, who was working as an assistant manager of corporate operations for JDIB before she lost her job last week, told The Jordan Times.

Salameh said she had been working for the Industrial Development Bank, which JDIB acquired in 2010, since 1985.

In January 2011, the bank introduced a new dress code requiring female staff to wear a uniform and a white headscarf. Salameh accepted the uniform but refused to wear the head cover on the grounds that it violated her religious beliefs and because her initial contract with the bank in March 2010 did not include a dress code requiring staff to wear a head cover.

"I accepted the uniform but not the head cover because the contract I signed with the bank in 2010 did not state that I had to cover my hair. I am not against hijab. I respect the fact that they wear it in the Gulf, but we are in Jordan and our Constitution guarantees freedom of religion," she said.

She is one of the lucky ones. If she lived in Pakistan, where one is taking part in a Slut Walk if the bearded see your ankle or accuse you of improper relations, she might be stoned to death. There are no empowerment speeches or placards to dissuade that.

Yes, men sure do take an interest in how women dress. 

And who could forget the dowdy Miss Fluke's convenient distress over being called the ever-empowering yet mysteriously shaming word slut? Or does it only matter who uses the word slut? Sure it does. Dress or undress the word however one will but no one - not even the most bovine feminist studies scholar- sees sluttishness as a virtue unless there is a cause to made of it. After all, who claims being a slut isn't so bad- Rush Limbaugh or the Slut Walk crowd? Childish contradictions aside, why the furor over a word? Because words have bad meanings unless one can pull the wool over the eyes faster than one can say: "Do these lacy pants make my butt look big?".

It just boggles the mind how people can enjoy degrading themselves and fool themselves into thinking vice is virtue and idiocy is intelligence. It's like someone checked her brains at the door.

And her pants.

And perhaps her socks.

Islamism is a flavour of crazy unto itself.

The plight of Coptic Christians in Egypt:

Seven months ago, Mossad says she was in the crowd of protesters when she was suddenly assaulted and beaten by an officer who called her an "infidel." The demonstration erupted into a horrific night of brutality in which 27 people were killed and hundreds injured in clashes between Egyptian security forces and mainly Coptic Christian demonstrators who were protesting against an attack on a church by Islamic extremists.

From the old country to the new: 

Yesterday at 6:20PM, as Fr. Roger Barthes began to celebrate mass, four youths, aged 14 to 18, broke into the Church of St. Joseph, before launching handfuls of pebbles at 150 faithful present at the service. Immediately, men began pursuing the young troublemakers, but in vain. They managed to vanish into thin air, heading towards the city La Conte.

Interrupted by regrettable unexpected event, Mass was finally able to proceed as planned. Although no one was injured and nothing was broken in the church, located along the Avenue Jean Moulin, the parishioners, many of whom are elderly, were greatly shocked by the disrespectful act of the youths of North African origin....

I suppose the fashioning of a Buddhist temple into a mosque is a time-saver:

A controversy is brewing over the proposal for the construction of a Buddhist building here after the PAS-led state government ruled that new buildings should include Islamic designs to reflect the state capital’s status as an Islamic city.

State Local Government, Culture, Arts and Tourism committee chairman Takiyuddin Hassan said developers must incorporate some Islamic elements in their plans or the proposals would be rejected.

“We will ensure development will be based on Islamic principles and features,” he told a press conference here.

He claimed the ruling was well-accepted by the majority of developers, including non-Muslim developers.

It’s one thing when the people in a failed state live according to seventh century codes of conduct, it is quite another when the West, which has shown its ability to evolve, caves in to such backward thinking. It becomes a joke for the Islamists:

For Sheikh Mahlawi, however, the ulema have no choice about seeing non-veiled women in the streets, “since that is imposed on them,” but, where they have a say — such as whether to appear on TV with an unveiled woman — they must say no. He then proceeded to brag about how a female official from the U.S. Consulate wanted to meet with him, but he made her wear the hijab first.

Why is such a man calling the shots?

If anything, Islamism has been something of a gift, albeit an atrocious and violent one. It has shown to the post-modern West the liberal/leftist classes for what they really are: cowardly in the face of what is so obviously a violent cult and spiteful towards Christianity and conservatism. The sin of hypocrisy, among other things, has been so great that one stands agape at it. Where are the masses who fawn over adults' sexually deviant lifestyles as though they were children in need of incessant coddling? There is nothing brave about admitting what you do in a bedroom or bathroom in a society that – for whatever reason- lavishes praise for those sorts of things. Have a Pride March in Tehran if you’re brave. Why don’t the woman-hating/fearing paranoics from the West and the Middle East link arms and sashay amid rainbow coloured flags? Surely liberals the world over can embrace this vision of togetherness? Or are they afraid to even think it? And do we need to hash out the Islamic world's treatment of women? Where are the feminists and their Slut Walks when Aqsa Parvez or some of the Shafia family's women needed them? Where is the impassioned defense of women who are treated worse than cattle? Multiculturalism, it seems, trumps women's rights every time.

Islamism is this generation's Red Scare. It's not an irrational fear if there is a real threat. How do you appeal to a group of perpetually angry people who are affronted by everything?

You don't.

Someone's Face Must Be Red

Uh-oh:

In an article published Sunday, McGregor claims that  Mulcair and his wife have remortgaged their West-Island Montreal home 11 times since the 1980s.

Land records show that the Mulcairs' paid $64,000 for the home in 1983, with a $56,000 mortgage from the Caisse Populaire du Lac St. Louis at 10.7 per cent interest — the going rate of the day. The couple then obtained loans against the home  in 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2009.

Moreover, in 2010, Mulcair and his wife obtained a line of credit from the Royal Bank for an undisclosed amount.

"It is unclear why Mulcair would need to refinance the modest two-garage home in Beaconsfield so many times, bumping the value of the mortgage from $58,000 to $300,000," McGregor wrote, clearly implying that Mulcair is a poor financial manager.

And:

Mulcair was quoted last week as saying people will "never hear me speaking against the development of the oilsands" but in the March edition of Policy Options magazine, Mulcair bashed Prime Minister Stephen Harper's position on oilsands development and called it "immoral."

"We know that it is impossible to maintain the current manner of tarsands development without seriously affecting the health of human beings - and without destroying important ecosystems forever. He (Harper) is currently placing the largest ecological and economic debt imaginable in the backpacks of our children and grandchildren," Mulcair wrote in the piece entitled Tarsands: Dirty Oil and the Future of a Country.

And:

Tom Mulcair is dialling back the NDP's anti-oilsands rhetoric as he prepares for his first visit to Alberta's massive, unconventional petroleum deposits.

The NDP leader is to tour Suncor's oilsands project near Fort McMurray on Thursday.

The visit is akin to walking into the lion's den for Mulcair, who has been lambasted by western premiers for blaming booming oilsands exports for artificially inflating the Canadian dollar and, as a result, hollowing out the country's manufacturing sector — a phenomenon dubbed the "Dutch disease."

I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding. A lot of people question the very profitable and much-needed oilsands with words like "immoral" and "tarsands" all the while having no idea what they are talking about. I'm sure it's nothing.

A story about a dog......


Who doesn't like a story about a dog?

A stray dog, now known as Xiao Sa, followed a team of cyclists for 24 days, following their 1,833-km route from Kangding, Sichuan province, China, to Lhasa, Tibet.

No one knows where the small white dog came from. Xiao Sa quickly became an Internet sensation after one cyclist launched the microblog Go Go Xiao Sa to chronicle the long journey.

"She was lying, tired, on the street around Yajiang, Sichuan province," cyclist Zhang Heng, 22, told China Daily. "So we fed her, and then she followed our team.

The cyclists quickly embraced the dog as their race mascot with Xiao Sa following along their route, running on dirt roads and climbing 12 mountains.

"Many people stopped cycling in some sections, then took the bus, but the dog made it," Zhang said, calling the stray canine a "buddy and a friend."

"She followed us for three days, running behind our team but sometimes leading us. She's very smart and knows the route, because she never got lost even when we passed through mountains," said Wang Penghao, 24, another cyclist on the route. Penghao had heard about the dog and was told to feed and care for Xiao Sa if he encountered the determined dog.

Zhang spent 20 days on the road with the dog — and hopes to adopt the pup:

"I would like to take the dog home and take care of her. She has been a stray on the road for a long time. She needs a home."

One cyclist took the dog for a checkup, to ensure the long race didn't take a toll on her health.

"Everything is fine with her, including her nose, teeth. She's not affected by altitude sickness," the vet, Yang Bo, told CNTV English.

It's heart-warming.

Cheating?

I am no legal expert but I think that is the gist of it:

The European Union is set to launch a major trade case against China's biggest telecom equipment makers, arguing that they have benefited from illegal government subsidies, the Financial Times said.

The EU told member states it had been gathering evidence for an anti-dumping case against Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and ZTE Corp, saying that they had obtained illegal government subsidies and sold products in the EU below cost, the newspaper said, quoting unidentified EU officials and executives.

Once the EU determined that China was acting illegally, Huawei and ZTE, the world's No.2 and No.5 telecom equipment makers, could be subject to punitive EU tariffs, the FT said. ...

China is the European Union's second biggest trading partner after the United States and the bloc is China's biggest trade partner, with trade between the two forecast to hit a record high of 500 billion euros ($397 billion) this year.

But the relationship is tense. De Gucht has in the past complained that China subsidies "nearly everything", making it hard to compete.

The Power of Hypocrisy, You Mean

Last week 28-year-old, $17 billion-rich, jeans-clad Mark Zuckerberg took Wall Street for a multibillion-dollar ride, making his original buddies instant billionaires and his loyal larger circle millionaires. Note that there is no Occupy Wall Street protest at Facebook headquarters. Just as there are none at Oprah’s house or the residence of Leonardo DiCaprio, despite their take each year of between $50 and $100 million.

No one has suggested that Hollywood lower movie-ticket prices by asking Johnny Depp or Jennifer Lopez to walk away with $10 or $20 million less a year. Steve Jobs found ways to dodge taxes comparable to those deployed by any Wall Street fatcat, but he was iPad cool, and so his iPhone billions were exempt from the Occupy nonsense. Cool capitalists are immune from the neo-Marxist critique of capitalism — a racket that $40-billion-rich Warren Buffett learned late in life, but well enough, with the “Buffett Rule.”

We simply don’t mind that Google and Amazon rake in billions, but we despise Exxon and Archer Daniels Midland for doing the same. It is not that we need social networking and Internet searches more than food and fuel, but rather that we have the impression that cool zillionaires in flip-flops are good while uncool ones in wingtips are quite bad. ...

The power of cool is evident also in politics. State quite correctly that you can see Russia from parts of Alaska, and you are ditzy white-trash Sarah from Wasilla; state falsely that Franklin Roosevelt addressed the nation on television in 1929, and you are just “good ol’ Joe Biden.”

John Kerry’s second married-into fortune probably dwarfs the one that Mitt Romney made himself, perhaps by a factor of ten. While we heard in 2012 that Romney wanted a car elevator in one of his many houses, we never heard much in 2004 of presidential candidate Kerry’s various mansions, boats, or assorted playthings, or how he proved to be a keen investor as a senator helping to set US financial policy.

The contradictory mindset of the left/liberal classes is so mind-numbingly stunning that there should be a subsection of psychology devoted entirely to studying what is wrong with these people and why. The hypocrisy and then the justification of that hypocrisy must be some sort of method to drive everyone else insane if they try figuring it out.

I'm Sure This Is All A Coincidence

Thirty officials of the North Korean regime who were involved in talks with South Korea have been executed or died in “staged traffic accidents,” according to a human rights report. ...

In its annual study, Amnesty International claimed that in addition to the 30 who died in purges last year, a further 200 were rounded up in January this year by the State Security Agency as Pyongyang carried out the transfer of power from Kim Jong-il, who died of an apparent heart attack in December, and his 29-year-old son, Kim Jong-un.

Of those 200, Amnesty said, some were apparently executed and the remainder were sent to political prison camps. The gulag system presently contains an estimated 200,000 people in “horrific conditions,” the group said.

Because it's Amnesty International, whose sympathies as of late are suspect, some fact-checking is required.



It's old news:

North Korea has reportedly purged 30 officials who participated in inter-Korean talks or supervised bilateral dialogue via execution by firing squad or staged traffic accidents. 



A South Korean government source said Thursday, “Thirty people have been confirmed to have died or gone missing until recently. About 10 partners of inter-Korean talks with the South were executed by firing and about 20 others were said to have died in traffic accidents.”

And this part is old hat:

Weeks after 20-something Kim Jong Un assumed power following his father Kim Jong Il’s sudden death by heart attack last month, border guards have begun shooting down would-be defectors who try to flee the impoverished nation, the reports said. 

From one of the most secretive Stalinist states in the world.

China criticises the US' human rights record:

China criticized a “woeful” human rights record in the United States on Friday, a day after a U.S. report said Beijing’s own record is getting worse, with harsh crackdowns on dissidents.

“The United States’ tarnished human rights record has left it in no state — whether on a moral, political or legal basis — to act as the world’s ‘human rights justice,’” China said in an annual report on U.S. human rights.

The report cited the arrests of protesters participating in the Occupy Wall Street movement in the United States. Many protesters, it said, accused police of brutality.

It also said the United States has “fairly strict restrictions” on the Internet, saying the U.S. Patriot Act and Homeland Security Act both have clauses about monitoring the Internet, giving the government or law enforcement organizations power to monitor and block any Internet content “harmful to national security.”

Chinese dissident Chen’ new life “The facts contained in the report are a small yet illustrative fraction of the United States’ dismal record on its own human rights situation,” China’s report said.

Normally Japan writes open letters to China about this sort of thing along the vein of: "What the hell!" and "Who the hell do you think you are?!" and "Did you just say that? Are you drunk? Stop eating those fetus pills! They're making you crazy and just EW!". If the US (or any other country, for that matter) had any moral or intestinal fortitude they would tell China to cram their insufferable hypocrisy, arrogance, greed and bloodlust in their ears.



File this under "Too Little, Too Late":

Bishop Harry Jackson, senior pastor at Hope Christian Church, is leading a coalition of 176 religious leaders against President Barack Obama’s declared support for gay marriage and the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.

“We want to know whether he is going to use the bully pulpit of the presidential office to absolutely erase the image of biblical marriage from the face of the earth,” said Jackson at the Capitol on May 24.

“Voters need to know whether they have a friend or an assent, an enemy to an institution that God has ordained,” he added. “Some of us have taken his statements as a declaration of political war against the venerable institution of marriage.”

“In the African-American community, many people are saying they made him do that, we don’t understand why he did that,” said Jackson. “We don’t believe that really was the president’s intent. Others have given high fives in the backroom saying, ‘he got paid.’ We don’t really know what the intent of the president is except that we know that is not just an isolated incident. Some further action will follow.”

American clergy of all denominational stripes should be ashamed of whatever involvement they had in letting Obama into office in the first place. Whether it was white shame or the thrill of seeing some unvetted black man in the Oval Office, their moral failure to critically evaluate the man who would lead them can only be somewhat redeemed by their endless campaigning to remove him.


He voted against the "Born Alive" Act. What did they think he would do once he was president?



The war against women seems largely Democratic:

A group of Democratic female senators on Wednesday declared war on the so-called “gender pay gap,” urging their colleagues to pass the aptly named Paycheck Fairness Act when Congress returns from recess next month. However, a substantial gender pay gap exists in their own offices, a Washington Free Beacon analysis of Senate salary data reveals.

Of the five senators who participated in Wednesday’s press conference—Barbara Mikulski (D., Md.), Patty Murray (D., Wash.), Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.), Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) and Barbara Boxer (D., Calif.)—three pay their female staff members significantly less than male staffers.

Murray, who has repeatedly accused Republicans of waging a “war a women,” is one of the worst offenders. Female members of Murray’s staff made about $21,000 less per year than male staffers in 2011, a difference of 35.2 percent.

That is well above the 23 percent gap that Democrats claim exists between male and female workers nationwide. The figure is based on a 2010 U.S. Census Bureau report, and is technically accurate. However, as CNN’s Lisa Sylvester has reported, when factors such as area of employment, hours of work, and time in the workplace are taken into account, the gap shrinks to about 5 percent.

A significant “gender gap” exists in Feinstein’s office, where women also made about $21,000 less than men in 2011, but the percentage difference—41 percent—was even higher than Murray’s.

Boxer’s female staffers made about $5,000 less, a difference of 7.3 percent.

The Chosen One has reduced a lot of the electorate to poverty:

49.1%: Percent of the population that lives in a household where at least one member received some type of government benefit in the first quarter of 2011.

Cutting government spending is no easy task, and it’s made more complicated by recent Census Bureau data showing that nearly half of the people in the U.S. live in a household that receives at least one government benefit, and many likely received more than one.

The 49.1% of the population in a household that gets benefits is up from 30% in the early 1980s and 44.4% as recently as the third quarter of 2008.

The increase in recent years is likely due in large part to the lingering effects of the recession. As of early 2011, 15% of people lived in a household that received food stamps, 26% had someone enrolled in Medicaid and 2% had a member receiving unemployment benefits. Families doubling up to save money or pool expenses also is likely leading to more multigenerational households. But even without the effects of the recession, there would be a larger reliance on government.

The reason why they are heroes is because without their sacrifices, people would be speaking German and eating tree bark:

Um, and, ah, ah, why do I feel so comfortable [sic] about the word “hero”? I feel comfortable, ah, uncomfortable, about the word because it seems to me that it is so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war. Um, and, I don’t want to obviously desecrate or disrespect memory of anyone that’s fallen, and obviously there are individual circumstances in which there is genuine, tremendous heroism: hail of gunfire, rescuing fellow soldiers and things like that. But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic. But maybe I’m wrong about that.

Yes, maybe you are wrong about that.

A Note On the Poll

Thanks, first of all, to those who responded to the poll question: should Canada withdraw from the UN?


The majority of respondents said yes, we should withdraw. Only one said no.


With respect to the sole negative respondent, the UN's vision of one government, one world, has worked out famously for countries like Russia and China, which sit permanently in the UN Security council, and countries like North Korea, Syria, Iran and various other failed violent states that oppress their people and threaten world peace.


And who can forget Rwanda?

Rioting students who have, since February, clogged streets, bridges and businesses, smashed windows, disrupted classes, thrown smoke bombs and ruined businesses believe, because they are allowed to, that they are in a position of negotiation with the provincial government.


The average annual tuition for a university student in Quebec is $2, 519. That's two thousand, five hundred and nineteen dollars average cost of tuition for a year. The highest annual tuition is in the province of Ontario at $6,640. It should be noted before one continues that the province of Quebec receives transfer payments (federal government transference of cash for "needy" provinces or territories) of $17.4 billion for 2012-13, an increase of $5.3 billion. This is one of the largest transfer payments in the country. Much of the funds for these transfer payments come from the Alberta oilsands.What the Jean Charest government proposed was a marginal increase of $325 for the next five years:

Tuition fees will rise by $325 a year, over five years, beginning in fall 2012. The increase will bring the cost of full-time studies to $3,793 per year, for Quebec residents. Full-time students currently pay $2,168 a year.

Not good enough.


Quebec students rioted and will continue doing so. They have received financial backing from out-of-province unions:

Out-of-province money is flowing toward Quebec student activists amid signs their protest movement could persist into the summer.

Trade unions based outside Quebec have already confirmed depositing some $40,000 into the bank accounts of the province's largest student federations, cash that has helped pay for needs such as buses and food during demonstrations.

Unions in the rest of Canada, meanwhile, say their memberships will soon be asked to vote on new contributions for these student groups. Others are urging local union branches to consider making donations.

The cash injection from outside the province represents a fraction of the monetary support that has been sent to student groups. Quebec unions have given tens of thousands of dollars to the cause, including $35,000 just from the Confederation des syndicats nationaux.

Charest, the ever-jelly-spined, pushed through a new law demanding notice before rioting. I am not making this up. It's right here:

Bill 78 lays out regulations for demonstrations over 50 people, including giving eight hours’ notice for a protest itinerary. Penalties range between $7,000 and $35,000 for a student leader and between $25,000 and $125,000 for unions or student federations. The legislation also provides for fines for any individual who prevents someone from entering an educational institution.

That's the best they can do, apparently. Demand rioters give notice before marching onto the streets and smashing windows.



What about section fifty-one of the Criminal Code?

Take section 51 of the Criminal Code. Here it is in full: “Everyone who does an act of violence in order to intimidate Parliament or the legislature of a province is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years.” 

Why haven't the police arrested rioters en masse? I don't mean the window-dressing arrests of scraggy-looking "students". Why haven't they gone after those who promote, fund or carry out this crippling series of riots?



And now the government of Quebec will try again to communicate and negotiate with these "students":

Quebec's university student federation has confirmed negotiations between student leaders and the provincial government will resume Monday afternoon.

Talks between the student groups and the government broke off more than a month ago, sparking the nightly protests that have flooded Montreal streets for 33 days

There have been indications the government is ready to compromise on the tuition hike, Martine Desjardins, the president of the FEUQ, told CBC News on Sunday.

"I think the government is having a lot of pressure right now with all those demonstrations on a day-to-day basis going on," she said, "not only in Montreal anymore but in a lot of cities across the province. I think the government wants to make this stop. They tried with Bill 78, but unfortunately it’s not working."

Desjardins said all three of Quebec’s major student groups will be at the table.

Confirmation of the new round of negotations came on the same day as Quebec’s famed festival season officially kicked off. While organizers are trying to remain optimistic, some say they have significant concerns about the potential effect of the student protests on tourist visits. 

Yes. We wouldn't want to ruin the tourist season, now, would we?



My question is: what the hell?



If this had been any other country, this "strike" would have ended ages ago.



By the way, you can't go on strike if you're not actually working.

Public sector workers get more cash than you or me:

In yet another story of public sector opulence, it appears that hundreds of thousands of core public sector employees could soon be eligible to collect severance payments even while they remain in their jobs.

While that may sound counter-intuitive, PostMedia News is reporting that government is in the process of renegotiating 27 collective agreements that had allowed for the accumulation of severance.  The new deals — some of which have already been finalized — won't include severance, so current employees will be given an option of "cashing-out" their accumulated benefits from past years.

They can do so while they keep their jobs, they also can wait until they resign or retire to collect the cash, or they can receive some of it now and the remainder when leaving the public service.

Bureaucrats in the Privy council office, for example, have already collected $10.5 million in voluntary severance, averaging out to around $21,729 for every worker who requested the cash out.

The total cost to taxpayers, according to PostMedia, could total up to $1 billion.

These are the Quebec brats in the next few years.



Proof that the left aren't just crazy; they are evil:

What you just heard and read is no joke. It actually happened. The phenomenon is called “SWATting,” because it can bring a SWAT team to your front door. SWATting is a particularly dangerous hoax in which a caller, generally a computer hacker, calls a police department to report a shooting at the home of his enemy. 

The caller will place this call to the police department’s business line, using Skype or a similar service, and hiding behind Internet proxies to make the call impossible to trace. Anxious police, believing they are responding to the home of an armed and dangerous man, show up at the front door pointing guns and screaming orders.

That is exactly what happened to me. It is a very dangerous hoax that could get the target killed.

Boxford police had their hands full chasing some hard-partying cows Sunday night, according to police.

Police Chief Michael Murphy passed along pictures from the incident that began when officers were called to Main Street for an animal complaint.

They arrived to find six cows crashing a party in a neighborhood backyard.

According to a report, officers said about a dozen young adults had been drinking beer at a picnic table when the cows showed up.
