A bridge too far for the Japanese voter:
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced Sunday that he will resign amid growing calls from within the Liberal Democratic Party for him to take responsibility for a pair of poor showings at the polls, putting an end to his 11-month tenure.
At a news conference Sunday evening, Ishiba said he decided to step down because tariff negotiations with the United States, an issue he has described as a "national crisis," reached a milestone on Friday.
"I've always said I will decide what to do at an appropriate timing. With U.S. tariff negotiations reaching a certain phase, I believe now is the appropriate timing," Ishiba said. "I decided to give way to the next generation."
Also - not content with ruining Canada, a single body of arrogance proceeds to ruining Japan, as well:
Asked which politician he admires the most, Heese names Pierre Trudeau, father of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“He brought Canada into the modern age with reasonable social policies,” he says. “When legalizing homosexuality in 1967 as justice minister, he famously said, ‘There’s no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation.’ He was a sharp intellectual who was very much ahead of his time.” ...
(Sidebar: there is a reason why Hess is not in Saskatchewan right now. See above. Does the Japanese public remember Trudeau and his NEP?)
A more existential concern for Heese is, in his words, the coming global climate disaster.
“Governments at all levels need to get off fossil fuels. Period! They need to switch to EVs and install massive amounts of renewables with the necessary batteries,” he says. “We also need to incentivize companies and private people to do the same. If we don’t solve this crisis, nothing else will matter.”
