Linguistic Chauvinism

Canada has a total population of 37, 956, 724. According to the 2016 census, 75.4% of the population spoke English only and 22.8% spoke French only (fewer numbers speak aboriginal languages). The number of francophone public service workers rose to 29.2% in 2011. This is due to the Official Languages Act brought in Pierre Trudeau.

This is important because Pierre's twit son is planning to plough through the country with his own linguistic jingoism before the Chinese make French irrelevant in this country for once and for all:

The Trudeau government is proposing a series of sweeping language reforms that will “intervene vigorously to counter and remedy” the decline of French in Canada.

In a roughly 30-page document titled “English and French: Towards the substantive equality of official languages in Canada” published Friday, the government makes over 50 proposals that aim to counter the decline of French across the country and “reinforce a sense of linguistic security.”

No one speaks French in Beijing, Justin.

Perhaps one should not be surprised that the government refused to do what it is paid to do:

Federal Conservatives say the Liberals are using a pandemic-induced shortage of translators to shut down House of Commons committees when they raise issues that cause the government discomfort.

Conservative whip Blake Richards points to a meeting of the health committee last Friday, which was abruptly cut short by Liberal chair Ron McKinnon announcing that the committee would not have any Commons staff resources, including interpreters, after 4:30 p.m.
