Mid-Week Post

Not forgotten

Steven Guilbeault Goebbels said out right that he wanted to ban what he called "taunts" against politicians and wanted to use an Internet kill switch  to ban websites he deemed were "hurtful":

Now he is going to get what he wants:

Right before the House of Commons breaks for summer, the Liberal government will introduce a new bill tackling hate speech, which could bring back a controversial law under the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Justice Minister David Lametti has given notice the government will introduce a new bill, dealing with “hate propaganda, hate crimes and hate speech.” Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault has been working on a new online harms bill with Justice and other ministries, though government spokespeople declined to say Tuesday whether that bill is the legislation that will be tabled by Lametti.

Make no mistake about it. These bills are not about protecting Canadian content, stamping out bigotry or the "toxicity" that mincing, whinging, little sock-boys who elbow women in the chest or wear blackface are so terrified of. This is about solidifying power, power granted by an antiquated system that installs unaccountable governments and foreign money. It is about protecting a corrupt government and ensuring that no criticism of it can ever happen. It is about ensconcing foreign interests in the political heart of the country and allow them to dictate how the resources of that country are used (if you don't believe me, ask who will buy our oil now that every pipeline has been quashed). It is about the removal of any potential political opposition (why does that sound familiar?). In short, it is a takeover by a Vichy government with the aid of some very friendly interlopers and a compliant population:

Yet while the government’s medical scientists have been front and centre on the public stage almost every day since last March, the behavioural scientists have mostly been operating under the radar. If you know where to look, though, evidence of the behaviour-nudging team keeps peeking out under all those public proclamations from Canada’s COVID-19 crisis managers.

When Trudeau and the premiers use their podiums to calm fears or tell hard truths about the pandemic, for example, their words don’t just come from hunch or political instincts. Reams of behavioural data is being collected by government throughout the pandemic, on everything from people’s general emotions about COVID-19 to their willingness to get vaccinated.

The same people who wear masks and follow floor-stickers.

They never question why or why their appointed and unaccountable "experts" keep getting things wrong and keep stirring paranoia

If Canadians can willingly let a snowboard instructor lock them down, how hard is it to convince them that patently absurd things like everything expressed is akin to racism and must therefore be banned for the greater good?

Not at all.

Also:

Mongolia promised its people a “COVID-free summer.” Bahrain said there would be a “return to normal life.” The tiny island nation of the Seychelles aimed to jump-start its economy.

All three put their faith, at least in part, in easily accessible Chinese-made vaccines, which would allow them to roll out ambitious inoculation programs at a time when much of the world was going without.

But instead of freedom from the coronavirus, all three countries are now battling a surge in infections.

Dr. Charles Hoffe, a family doctor from Lytton, British Columbia, is no longer willing to be silent about his concerns regarding the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

After just 900 people in Lytton were vaccinated with the shot, Dr. Hoffe observed numerous concerning allergic reactions and neurological side effects from the vaccine, with the most concerning reactions occurring in First Nations patients.

As any good doctor would do after administering a new treatment that may have unexpected harmful side effects, Dr. Hoffe began to share his findings with other medical professionals, only to be chastised for creating “vaccine hesitancy.”

Focused on his oath to his patients, rather than the fear of being punished for raising such concerns, Dr. Hoffe wrote an open letter to B.C. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.

“In stark contrast to the deleterious effects of this vaccine in our community, we have not had to give any medical care what-so-ever, to anyone with COVID-19. So in our limited experience, this vaccine is quite clearly more dangerous than COVID-19,” Dr. Hoffe wrote, calling for answers from the provincial Ministry of Health.

Where Canada is headed:

The first person charged under the national security law in Hong Kong pleaded not guilty as his trial began on Wednesday, almost a year after he was accused of driving his motorbike into officers at a rally while carrying a flag reading: “Liberate Hong Kong! Revolution of our times.”

Authorities banned the popular protest slogan under the security law.

Who will rise up against this here?

No one.

If words scare people so much, they should go back to their locked-down homes and cower in fear:

The Vatican has taken a highly unusual step against its neighbor, sending a diplomatic note to the Italian government that protests a draft law aimed at preventing hate and violence against LGBT people. ...

While it’s common for church figures to take stances on affairs in other countries — whether on same-sex marriage, LGBT rights or abortion — in this case the Vatican is actually invoking its prerogatives as a nation, arguing that the law, if passed, would violate the so-called “concordat” that provides the framework for its relationship with Italy.

“Some current contents of the draft being debated by the Senate reduce the freedom granted to the Catholic Church,” the Vatican’s note said, according to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, which first reported the letter.

I would be far more worried about people who throw homosexuals off of roofs for fun than if a priest defends traditional marriage from the pulpit.

Why don't Hungary and Poland just withdraw from the EU?:

The European Union’s executive branch warned Hungary and Poland Tuesday that it will take action if they continue to violate the 27-nation bloc’s democratic standards, amid signs that both countries have little intention of changing their ways.

Hungary and Poland have faced criticism in the EU for years over allegations that they are eroding judicial and media independence, among other democratic principles. Last week, Hungary passed a new law banning content portraying or promoting homosexuality or sex reassignment to anyone under 18.

“Freedom of expression needs to be protected, and no one should be discriminated (against) on the basis of sexual orientation,” European Commission Vice-President Vera Jourova said. “The commission is now looking into the law and assessing if it breaches EU law.”

Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said the law "does not correspond to any values defended by the European Union. People have the right to live the way they want, really, we are no longer in the Middle Ages.”

But his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto, argued that the law protects children. He said it allows “parents to educate their kids regarding sexual orientation until the age of 18.”

As the esteemed Eurocrats if this freedom of expression includes criticising Islam.

I'll wait.

I'm sure the Chinese care:

The high-profile scientist who was fired from Canada’s top infectious disease lab collaborated with Chinese government scientists on inventions registered in Beijing, but closely related to her federal job, intellectual property documents indicate.

Xiangguo Qiu, who’s also under investigation by the RCMP, is listed as an inventor on two patents filed by official agencies in China in recent years. ...

One of the patents listing her as a co-inventor — with five other people — was filed with the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration by the country’s National Institutes for Food and Drug Control. It describes an “inhibitor for Ebola virus.” Qiu won fame in Canada for helping develop a treatment for Ebola, though the Chinese drug seems different. ...

Neither Chinese patent makes any mention of her Canadian government employer.

The federal Public Servants Inventions Act states that the federal government owns all inventions “made by a public servant that resulted from or is connected with his duties or employment.”

And the legislation says a government employee cannot file a patent outside the country without the minister’s permission.

Oooh, the Chinese are shaking!

A new administration's failure in the making:

North Korea’s foreign minister on Wednesday said his country is not even considering a resumption of stalled nuclear talks with the United States, dismissing hopes expressed by U.S. and South Korean officials for a quick resumption of negotiations.

The statement by Ri Son Gwon came a day after the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un issued a message saying that U.S. expectations of talks would “plunge them into a greater disappointment.”

Hope for a restart of the nuclear talks flared briefly after Kim Jong Un instructed officials at a political conference last week to prepare for both dialogue and confrontation — though more for confrontation — with the Biden administration. U.S. National Security adviser Jake Sullivan called Kim’s comments an “interesting signal.”
