Your Morally Corrupt and Bafflingly Inept Government and You

You voted for it, Canada:

The Department of Employment paid more than $9 million in pandemic relief to dead people. Cheques were directly deposited into accounts of Canadians who passed away before the pandemic broke out: “Grieving people have no inkling who they should call.”

More

Canada’s highest-earning families were the biggest beneficiaries of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s pandemic aid, potentially opening his government to criticism that its programs were wasteful.

The top 20 per cent of income-earning families received an average of C$6,728 ($5,577) from emergency Covid-19 assistance programs, according to data provided to Bloomberg by Statistics Canada. The lowest-earning households got C$4,097 in aid, on average.

Oh, it gets better

The CESB was a decent program in theory. Many students work over the summer and saving a few extra thousand dollars can be useful when paying for expenses throughout the year. However, like many pandemic relief programs, it was not means-tested, firehosing money onto its recipients and making only cursory attempts to block funds from going to those who don’t need it.

The result was mind-numbing amounts of waste. Last year, the Fraser Institute estimated that $1.6 billion in CESB funds was allocated to students between the ages of 18-24 “living in families with more than $100,000 in household income.” That amounts to over half of the program’s final cost of $2.9 billion.

Canadians put a snowboard instructor who inherited his money in charge of their money.

Who is more stupid? Discuss.

Oh, dear:

“I’m here telling the world about how the highest office in our country is run by alcohol abusers and serial predators. The damage that Mike McNair has done to so many women’s mental health can’t be solved by reporting my reports to PMO. I tried for so many years.”

“This morning my account was discussed at a PMO staff meeting with an individual named Julie. When I say there is a witch-hunt happening led by Katie Telford it is an understatement.”

“…two sources have said that while they were PMO employees a young girl ended up in the hospital as a result of excessive bullying. Someone was fired but Brett Thalmann couldn’t handle the investigation as he hired the person – someone else was brought in.”

“For a second today (May 30) I was going to shut this account down because I didn’t want random colleagues to be accused of speaking up. But the mere fact that PMO has been calling and conducting a witch hunt is what keeps me going. You may think you know who I am but you have NO idea.”

“Woke up today to multiple messages from women saying they experienced situations where Mike McNair was inappropriate or made sexual advances on them. You knew, Katie Telford. PMO issues and comms knew. It was common knowledge. You let this happen to us.”

“Lots of folks have witnessed & experienced Katie Telford & Mike McNair extremely drunk while travelling. I wonder what else happened there. Why was Katie so set out 2 protect Mike? Women have left govt. He left 2 try 2 save his marriage but she brought him back.”

“Have heard this about many MPs. Specifically @cathmckenna multiple times. She has thrown press releases at staff. Been verbally abusive and condescending.”

If true, how much will Canadians vote for the Liberals (IF there was an election)?

Because "transparency":

Last week, Liberal MPs on the Commons health committee talked and talked to filibuster a meeting about what the committee would do with its last seven meetings before the summer.

The stalling was organized because opposition MPs wanted one of those meetings to be devoted to having officials explain another kind of stalling: the government’s refusal to hand over piles of documents about how the COVID-19 pandemic was handled.

It’s been obvious since those documents were first requested last October that the government didn’t really want to hand over the papers.

But now, there is, in the eyes of the Liberal government, an end in sight: just a few weeks to go. They can run out the clock.
