"Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors for Christ. To his saving power open the boundaries of States, economic and political systems, the vast fields of culture, civilization and development. Do not be afraid. Christ knows "what is in man". He alone knows it. " (Saint John Paul II, October 22nd, 1978)
When (not yet saint) Pope John Paul II uttered these words, Poland was under the thumb of one of the most cruel dictatorships the world had ever seen. Yet he and his fellow Poles persevered and lived to see the overthrow of communism in Poland (and have since never resurrected it).
Canadians, of course, aren't as cultured or as hungry for freedom as the Poles were (hence their re-ushering of China's favourite refuse) nor can this country magically find its footing again. It is finished. But all tyrants will end up fleeing at some point.
Be not afraid.
