You Say It Like It's A Bad Thing

Seeing as most migrants use Canada as a springboard to the US, why shouldn't Ukrainians?:

Many Ukrainians applying to come to Canada as Russia’s invasion of their country drags on are doing so as an “insurance policy” and a “backup plan,” the Canadian immigration minister has said.

In an interview Sunday with The West Block‘s guest host, Eric Sorensen, Sean Fraser said more than 100,000 applications have been approved from among the roughly 200,000-large inventory. But, he said it’s difficult to predict how many Ukrainians will actually come to Canada either on a temporary basis or to settle permanently.

What a snob.

This guy:

Employers will never fill job vacancies without record high immigration quotas, Minister of Immigration Sean Fraser said yesterday. “We cannot fill those jobs,” Fraser testified at the Commons immigration committee: ‘If we want to pay for all the things we enjoy we need to bring more people.’

 But no one believes him:

The Department of Immigration acknowledges public skepticism of Minister Sean Fraser’s claim that foreigners bring net benefit to Canada. In-house research questioned the impact of record high quotas: “Prioritize Canadian workers until Canada’s economy recovers from the pandemic.”
