Finding Your Hidden Racist

Whatever you may think of Michelle Malkin (whether you find her acerbic or a breath of fresh air) pales when one reads her hate mail.

Finding someone personally noxious is one thing. Fair enough. Sending mail (and signing it, too!) with boorish racist and misogynistic blather is another thing altogether.

Mrs. Malkin e-mailed Charisse Carney-Nunes who purportedly uploaded on Youtube some tripey song about Obama as sung by school children. Instead of e-mailing Mrs. Malkin back to discuss this issue rationally, Miss Carney-Nunes gave her account to the Washington Post.

The floodgates were opened.

Here are a few letters written by some rather displeased individuals (strong language within):

I feel bad for your kids; to be raised in such a hate-filled household must be devastating.
I wish somebody could call CPS on your Asian ass before your children develop the same hatred running through your Filipino veins.

Michelle Malkin, she’s just a brainless tit. Instead of pissing in the toilet, she pisses in the media. She’s Rush Limbaugh’s girlfriend on the side.

I reviewed your image this am and I noticed your thick lips. Please tell me you’re not BLACK. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.

I suppose by now we are all used to hearing how George Bush is like Hitler and Sarah Palin is stupid and conservatives are racist.Perhaps we should parse these statements carefully.

George Bush never sued or imprisoned anyone for the frankly awful slurs against him. Hitler, on the other hand, had people strangled with piano wire. Sarah Palin may lack the serene tones of a mezzo-soprano but she left her state in better condition than what she inherited. If, as the slander goes, conservatives are racist, perhaps one could explain "Asian @$$", "Filipino veins" and "thick lips".

Race should be discussed frankly but it also shouldn't be used to disqualify someone on what is a superficial quality. Yes, Obama is black but it is not his skin colour that makes him a useless president now. Could one also make the same observation about Mrs. Malkin? Yes, her parents are Filipino. So? Does her racial heritage exempt her from making some rather trenchant commentary? Of course not. This is a typical trope of liberals whose arguments fail to muster thinking individuals into appropriate action. If someone looks bad, his credibility is called into question. The slanderer looks good by comparison. The waters are muddied and no one knows what to think.

Furthermore, I believe those who truly fear race are the same people who bait it. If Mrs. Malkin's arguments are stupid, is it really because of her race? To even bring it up like that smacks of racism. What fear and loathing one must have to speak in such a way.

I would think in the twenty-first century, we went beyond that.
