We Don't HAVE to Trade With China

It's not like emboldening a paper tiger that can't afford to keep the lights on is doing us any good:

Beijing shoppers stocked up on cabbage, rice and flour for the winter on Wednesday, after the government urged people to keep stores of basic goods in case of emergencies, though it assured them there were sufficient supplies after some panic buying.

Oh, I'm sure.

Chinese citizen journalist, Zhang Zhan, is close to death:

A Chinese citizen journalist who was imprisoned for covering Wuhan’s dire COVID crisis at the height of the pandemic is ‘close to death’ after an ongoing hunger strike, her family says.

In a statement made by the International Federation for Human Rights, 38-year old Zhang Zhan’s ‘health is extremely poor, as she suffers from severe malnutrition, a gastric ulcer and swollen legs and feet.’ During her detention, she has been restrained and force-fed via a nasal tube. Zhan’s mother was permitted a video call with her daughter on October 28, 2021, after which she detailed that the journalist weighs less than 40 kg, is unable to walk unassisted and cannot raise her head without assistance.

Her brother Ju Zhang raises concern over her health in a Twitter post stating that his sister, 177 cm tall, now weighs a mere 40 kg. “I hope the world can remember her as she was,” he said.

She traveled to Wuhan in Ferbuary 2020 where she posted a series of videos on social media over the span of three months, covering the city’s chaotic mishandling of the pandemic. As reported by the New York Times, her videos allegedly challenged the Chinese government’s claim that the outbreak was under control.

Francois Champagne, who had a mortgage with Chinese banks and refused to thank Taiwan for its assistance to Canada (how rude!), assures Canadians that the Trudeau government will have Huawei spy on them

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne says Canada only wants to deal with "trusted partners" in future artificial intelligence ventures.

Champagne's comments to The Canadian Press send a strong signal that the Canadian rejection of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei as a 5G provider is at hand.

Then why not say it now, Franky?

Stop pointing out our crimes against humanity, demands China:

China’s foreign ministry yesterday said it will not tolerate the “politicization of sports” at the Beijing Winter Games. The Commons last February 22 by a 266-0 vote censured China for crimes against humanity and agreed to petition the International Olympic Committee to relocate the 2022 Games: “We’re pragmatic.”

China debated invading Taiwanese islands:

"Attacking and capturing the Pratas Islands - this scenario where war is being used to force (Taiwan into) talks - our assessment is that this will not happen during President Tsai's tenure," Chen told a parliamentary meeting.

Chen was responding to a question from a lawmaker in Taiwan's main opposition party, the Kuomintang, on whether China would attack before 2024, when Tsai's second term is set to end.

Also:

China's military said on Tuesday it conducted a combat readiness patrol in the direction of the Taiwan Strait, after its defence ministry condemned a visit to Taiwan by a U.S. congressional delegation it said had arrived on a military aircraft.

China backs North Korea.

This North Korea:

Retail giant Reitmans brought more than 100 shipments of clothing into Canada from a Chinese factory suspected of secretly using North Korean forced labour, a months-long CBC Marketplace investigation has found.

And they're not alone.

YM Inc., which owns well-known brands such as Sirens, Stitches, Bluenotes and UrbanKids, also did business with the same factory, Dandong Huayang Textiles and Garment Co. Ltd., up until 2019. Although a smaller volume, the company imported clothing at least 21 times, according to U.S. shipping records.

YM says it does not partner with anyone using forced labour.

And Reitmans says it has a policy against using forced labour, and that its orders from the Dandong factory were a small amount of what they've sold on store shelves.

(Sidebar: as of late, Reitman's now says it has removed remaining items made by North Korean labour from its stores. Canadians will be pleased to know that the Chinese company, Dandong Huayang,  still employs North Korean slave labour and is ready to pump out ill-fitting, shoddy merchandise at inflated prices whenever needed.)

The North Korean government has asked its citizens to watch what they eat until 2025. That’s when the country expects to reopen its border with China following the COVID-19 shutdown.

How interesting:

Li Yanming, a U.S.-based expert on Chinese current affairs, told The Epoch Times that on the eve of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CCP Central Committee, the Study Times had sharply criticized “naked officials” for their questionable behaviors. Since this session was a precursor to identifying top-level personnel for the 20th National Congress, the article prompted an investigation into whether some officials should be replaced or not promoted.

Commenting further on this issue, Li said, “More importantly, the party media has revealed that CCP officials have no confidence in the Party, and Xi knows they could flee at any time. They all suspect the Party is near its end. In addition, more than 386 million Chinese people have quit the CCP, including members of the Communist Youth League and Young Pioneers—many of whom are CCP officials. What this suggests is that the CCP has reached the end and is languishing.”

According to Lan Shu, a Chinese current affairs commentator, the CCP is hoping to correct its members’ wayward thinking and unify them before Xi’s reelection at the 20th National Congress. However, he is not yet prepared to appoint officials from other factions and prefers not to have any of them influenced by the West.

Zhao Yuanming, an expert on China and senior legal expert at the former Public Security University, told The Epoch Times that the CCP’s leadership is not united from top to bottom. Further, they are acting under the guise of “serving the people” when they are actually “deceiving the people.”
