Friday Post

Before the week-end....

Don't forget the poll on the side.

Remember all those wacky, crazy promises Obama made during the election? This is what chickens coming home to roost look like:

Hispanic amnesty activists are expanding their goals beyond the so-called “DREAM Act” youth amnesty, towards a national amnesty for roughly 11 million Hispanic illegals.

President Barack Obama and Congress “need to come together to deliver change on immigration policy, and by that we mean … a roadmap to citizenship for our parents and communities,” said Cristina Jimenez, director of an advocacy group, United We Dream.
Jimenez was born in Ecuador and arrived in this country as an illegal immigrant.

“Deporting members of our community is irresponsible and unacceptable,” added Lorella Praeli, the group’s policy director.

Their demand is an opening salvo in a post-election campaign to persuade the House GOP to provide “a path to citizenship” for roughly 11 million illegal immigrants, most of whom are low-skill laborers who compete for jobs against low-skill Americans.

The amnesty goal is supported by many progressive groups, in part, because most Hispanics prefer generous welfare policies, and so usually vote for Democratic candidates.

In contrast, many Republican advocates and legislators favor high-skill immigration, partly because high-skilled workers spur the economy and lower unemployment.

This is the government YOU voted for, Americans. Enjoy the next four years of it.

(Muchas gracias)

Because he's Mark Steyn:

If you add up the total debt – state, local, the works – every man, woman, and child in this country owes 200 grand (which is rather more than the average Greek does). Every American family owes about three-quarters of a million bucks, or about the budget deficit of Lichtenstein, which has the highest GDP per capita in the world. Which means that HRH Prince Hans-Adam II can afford it rather more easily than Bud and Cindy at 27b Elm Street. In 2009, the Democrats became the first government in the history of the planet to establish annual trillion-dollar deficits as a permanent feature of life. Before the end of Obama's second term, the federal debt alone will hit $20 trillion. That ought to have been the central fact of this election – that Americans are the brokest brokey-broke losers who ever lived, and it's time to do something about it.

Not going to happen, Mr. Steyn. Not going to happen. I do not believe for one minute that Obama has any intention of fixing the messes he made. The debt ceiling WILL be raised and unemployment will rise. He will claim with all the false sadness he can muster that he tried working with those "pig-headed" Republicans before heading off for another round of golf but that will be the extent of his effort.

Moving on to more national state of affairs....

How can one say this charitably? Should someone of Libby Davies' - ahem- "generous girth" be legislating what other Canadians eat?

NDP health critic Libby Davies introduced a private member's bill in the House of Commons Monday containing a raft of measures to help Canadians cut salt from their diet. ...

The legislation would implement recommendations made by a sodium reduction working group disbanded by Health Canada in 2011, including timelines on the voluntary reduction of salt in packaged food and changing food labelling guidelines. It would also create a public registry where food companies would report on sodium levels in their products.

Now, any diet high in sodium, sugar and/or fat, coupled with a complete absence of exercise, is not good for you. You know that leaving the fourth grade. Why would I need someone who looks like this:

... tell me what to eat?

Should students be allowed to opt out of Remembrance Day ceremonies for whatever reason? In a word, no. You can be an ingrate some other time.

Do not forget those who have gone before us....
