It's Just An Economy

Don't let facts get in the way:

Minimum wage hikes are an ineffective way of combatting poverty because more than 92% of Canadians earning minimum wage don’t live in low-income households, according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.

By contrast, only 2.2% are single parents with a child or children under the age of 18, despite governments creating the inaccurate impression most of the money goes to help those at the lowest end of the economic scale as defined by Statistics Canada’s Low-Income Cut-off (LICO).

Statistics Canada yesterday updated a new round of double-digit food cost increases for everything from cabbage to pork ribs at grocery stores nationwide based on actual check-out prices. The new data come six months after a former Bank of Canada governor urged consumers “not to worry about inflation.”

**

Yes, about all of this:

The participation rate dipped slightly to 65.3%, as fewer youth searched for work, Statscan said. It said the decline was consistent with pre-pandemic monthly variations. Employment returned to pre-pandemic levels in September, and that remained true in October.

These levels:

Unemployment Rate 6.70 6.90 percent Oct/21
Unemployed Persons 1365.60 1421.80 Thousand Oct/21

This is what we call window dressing.

People are under-employed. Businesses are shut down. It is nearly Christmas (ie, seasonal employment).

Hoodwinking.
