You Can Say and Do Anything You Want But You Actually Can't

MP Girl Name threw the election and we all know it:

Erin O’Toole’s office is asking Conservative MPs to keep quiet on hot-button political issues as the party struggles to maintain message discipline.

And quiet they are!:

Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu has apologized for comments she made about vaccines and COVID-19, just one day after leader Erin O’Toole said her statements were “not appropriate.”

Erin O’Toole retooled his front bench critic roles Tuesday, making some minor moves as the party prepares for the House of Commons’ return.

Conservative MPs told Global News that caucus was watching closely for what messages O’Toole sends in selecting his front bench and leadership team.

The loudest signal was the re-elevation of Pierre Poilievre, a polarizing MP with a significant following within the conservative movement, to the role of finance critic.

O’Toole had shuffled Poilievre out of the finance portfolio last February – a move that angered Poilievre’s boosters, including those who pushed him to run against O’Toole for the party leadership. At the time, a senior source close to O’Toole spun the move not as a demotion, but as moving an effective communicator to the important “jobs and industry” file.

Lewis was another Ontario representative to raise eyebrows with social media posts about COVID-19, particularly with one several weeks ago where she questioned the efficacy of vaccinating children.

She also finds herself without a critic role despite a strong showing during last year's bid to run for party leader against O'Toole, picking up a lot of support with the party's Western base and social conservative wing.

On Tuesday, she congratulated her colleagues who were welcomed into critic roles, saying she looked forward to working with them "as we advocate for a better, stronger, more united Canada."
