Monday Post

The week is what it is...

A stellar opening ceremonies for the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia managed to glorify Putin, Russian contributions to Western civilisation and- for one network- communism:

A pivotal experiment? Perhaps … in mass murder, subjugation, and paranoia. This “experiment” lasted more than 70 years and it was so “unsuccessful” that its satellites tried repeatedly to depart from it, resulting in brutal crackdowns from Moscow. The West didn’t lift a finger when Russians sent tanks into Hungary in 1956 to put down an end to that part of the “experiment,” nor did they do much in 1968 when the Czechs wanted to call the experiment a failure. Communism was an evil, tyrannical system of both government and economics, not an “experiment” in a lab somewhere. In this case, all the rats ran the experiment.

Pavel Chekov: navigator, man-about-town, Russian.

Speaking of communism:

President Obama "quipped" today during a visit to Monticello with the French president, "That's the good thing about being president, I can do whatever I want."

There's your King George and Vladimir Lenin for you. Too bad about that pesky little Congress and Constitution, eh?

Toronto mayor Rob Ford refuses to recognise Gay Nation as a real country and subsequently asks for its flag to be removed from city hall. Gay ideologues attack him in a country where they feel brave enough to do so, which is not in Russia or any Islamic state.

What one can ask Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne during her Reddit AMA on Tuesday:

- why did you lie about the cancelled gas plants that cost Ontarians millions of dollars?

- why do you persist on building wind turbines that are not only expensive eyesores but do not provide Ontarians with energy they need and can afford?

- what's the status of your (accused) child pornographer friend Benjamin Levin, who served as your former deputy education minister while you developed a very graphic sex education program meant for very young children, rather like the children he is accused of using in pornography?

(paws up)

Budget Tuesday: how screwed are we or are we on the right track?

And now, something that is truly bananas:

Beaumont police were called to Eastex Freeway near Highway 105 Saturday morning by people complaining about a man dressed as a banana holding an AK-47.

(See what I did there?)
