Thursday Post

Ah, what a world...

Obama moves closer to complete destabilisation of the Middle East and (with his fingers crossed) destruction of Israel, his pet hatred:

U.S. President Barack Obama's effort to win legislative backing for military strikes against Syria passed its first hurdle on Wednesday when a Senate committee voted in favor, but the narrow margin of victory showed the depth of U.S. caution.

In a possible sign of internal unrest in Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's ruling Alawite sect in the shadow of a likely U.S. intervention, Syrian opposition figures said General Ali Habib, a former defense minister, had defected. Syria denied the report.

Washington and Syria's main backer, Russia, remained publicly at odds as Obama tried to build his case for military action over chemical weapons before flying to Russia for a G20 summit hosted by President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.

Putin said U.S. congressional approval without a U.N. Security Council resolution would be an act of aggression, and accused U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry of lying by playing down the role of the militant group al Qaeda with rebel forces.

(Sidebar: where Russia permanently sits? Hhmmm...)

There is no mandate to win in Syria and there certainly is no sane leader to fill the void of either Assad or the rebels who are murdering Christians.

The confrontation between Putin and Kerry- in animal form.
Of course, Obama opts to shake Putin's peaches by- meeting with gay athletes. The world is on the brink of war and all the leader of the free world can do is... well... nothing.

Always the softball, eh, Obama?

What a joke he is.

Well, that must be embarrassing:

A Green Party of Canada plan for a blockbuster scandal appears to have been a dud.

On Wednesday, the Greens accused Prime Minister Stephen Harper of secretly supporting the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline with more than $100 million in taxpayer money.

In response, the federal government produced newspaper articles from March showing the funding was no secret.

If Elizabeth May wants to make political hay, she can ask Premier Wynne about the cancelled gas plants and her friend who is still accused of producing child pornography and just get rid of the fluff-head known as Justin Trudeau.

Come on, Elizabeth. Be useful!

Just saying, if one is caught praising North Korea, one's credibility is blown:

South Korea’s National Assembly has voted to revoke leftist fringe party lawmaker Lee Seok-Gi’s parliamentary immunity and allow his arrest for sedition and “praising North Korea.” This makes it all sound like something a banana republic would charge an opponent with, but in fact, Lee really stands accused of leading something called the Revolutionary Organization and “conspir[ing] to storm firearms depots to secure weapons, destroy oil-storage and communication facilities and assassinate unspecified figures.” The leadership of the main left-opposition Democratic Party, which contains some figures whose rhetoric (if not their concrete plans) can sound just as extreme as Lee’s, has announced its support for the arrest.
Putting Lee's possible guilt or innocence aside for the moment, why the hell would he live in South Korea and praise the country his country is at war with?

More information on Camp 22:

The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea released a report this week detailing the harrowing reality of Camp 22. Satellite imagery suggests the camp recently closed. Good news? Not exactly. According to the report, after a food shortage in 2009-10, Camp 22’s population shrunk to somewhere between 3,000 and 8,000 people from around 30,000 in previous years. Thousands of prisoners seem to have evaporated into thin air.

And now, bacon and egg baguette. Enjoy.

Why would Lee's actions be surprising?

Consider me not surprised.

If found guilty, Lee could be executed or imprisoned for life.
