In the Early Hours

Two Afghan girls were blinded by acid while on their way to school. This sort of thing is not atypical where the Taliban still has control. Academic empowerment is, apparently, "a sin". Where is the outrage from feminists and human-rights activists? While I am sure there are those who care, the mainstream will ignore things like this. I cannot think why.

Also, this is very cool.

In my opinion the Afghan/Taliban men of today, aren't any different than the Christian men of yesterday.

Bible passages which show that god considers women as the property of men, dumber than men, and less valuable than men:

Exodus 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
The comparison of coveting a neighbors wife to his house, ox, donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor is downright demeaning. Apparently, women are the property of men. This was discussed previously in "Want to become an atheist? read the bible - exodus edition"

Exodus 21:7 "If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do."
God is setting rules for when a father sells his daughter into slavery. Sickening.

Exodus 23:17 Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD.
Exodus 34:23 Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel.
I challenge you to find anywhere in the bible where is says that women should appear before god. (And if you are wondering whether 'men' can refer to all humans; the answer is no. The original Hebrew word would be different.)

Leviticus 27:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate persons to the LORD by giving equivalent values, 3 set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel ; 4 and if it is a female, set her value at thirty shekels.

This is a recurring theme in the bible, and many examples exist of this: God always sets the worth of men higher than women.

Leviticus 15:19 When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening. 20 " 'Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 22 Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 23 Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on, when anyone touches it, he will be unclean till evening.
.....
28 " 'When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be ceremonially clean. 29 On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 30 The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the LORD for the uncleanness of her discharge.
Recap: when a woman has her "regular flow of blood" she cannot be touched; whatever she touches cannot be touched; she is unclean; whoever touches her (or what she touched) is unclean; and to top it all of she must repent for her uncleanness with sin and burnt offerings. Fair is Fair.

Leviticus 12: 2 "Say to the Israelites: 'A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days ... 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. ... 5 If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding.
Yes, having a daughter means that you will be unclean for 14 days and impure for 66 days compared to being unclean for 7 days and impure for 30 days after having son. Simply - a daughter makes the mother twice as impure as the son.

Numbers 12:1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this. .... 4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out. 5 .... 9 The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. .... 10 When the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam—leprous, like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy; 11 and he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed. 12 Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb with its flesh half eaten away."
Miriam and Aaron (Moses' siblings) talk negatively about Moses. God gets mad with both of them. What's the consequence? Miriam gets leprosy. Aaron is untouched (although he 'feels' for her. Does that count?)

Number 30: 1 Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel: "This is what the LORD commands: 2 When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said. 3 "When a young woman still living in her father's house makes a vow to the LORD or obligates herself by a pledge 4 and her father hears about her vow or pledge but says nothing to her, then all her vows and every pledge by which she obligated herself will stand. 5 But if her father forbids her when he hears about it, none of her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand; the LORD will release her because her father has forbidden her. 6 "If she marries after she makes a vow or after her lips utter a rash promise by which she obligates herself 7 and her husband hears about it but says nothing to her, then her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand. 8 But if her husband forbids her when he hears about it, he nullifies the vow that obligates her or the rash promise by which she obligates herself, and the LORD will release her.
If a man makes a vow, he is obligated to complete it. If a woman makes a vow and her father or husband hear it, she is obligated to do what THEY deem. If they forbid it, she is not bound to the vow. If they say nothing, she is obligated to complete it. I guess god thinks that women aren't smart enough to keep their own word.

Our feminists and human-rights activists are afraid of getting an ass whopping...that's where they are. It's a shame but it's the truth. I feel so bad for those girls.

Wow, guy, that's quite the list of passages. I will submit to you that the Hebrew tribes had a far different view of basic civil rights, even of cleanliness, then the early Christians in the New Testament. There are separate commandments, both forbidding coveting of spouses and property respectively. There are also a good number of strong women in the Old Testament such as Esther (because of whom Purim, a Jewish holiday, is celebrated), Deborah, Judith and Naomi. Furthermore, this behaviour is not one bit tolerated in Christian or secular Western societies so the comparison is moot.
Ayre, I think you are right that there is fear in the West but the rights activists in the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan are fighting a very lonely battle. One word from a mainstream organisation would mean alot.

WOW! What an honour to have one of Santa's own elves be the first one to comment on your most recent post.
Is it just me, or do a few others also have the impression that the "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's ass" might PARTICULARLY apply to this guy?
There seems to be also be some lack of consideration, on his part, that his own ancestors were probably running around in animal skins clubbing each other while religious Jews, Greek philosophers and others were at least TRYING to forge an efficacious moral foundation humanity could follow.

This Guy - I've never read about Christians throwing acid in a girl's face.

Indeed.
