And the Rest of It

Guaranteed this woman will be given the "Aunt Jemima" treatment by the usual leftist suspects:

“I want to make sure that the country that I was raised in and the opportunities that I had as a child are there for my children,” said Lewis, who immigrated to Canada from Jamaica when she was five. “I’m not happy with the direction of the country…I think that I have a certain level of skill sets that would be very beneficial to the leadership position.” ...

On Tuesday, her campaign circulated an attack on MacKay for saying the party should “park” discussions about those issues. Lewis said Andrew Scheer is a “good man,” but he got in trouble because he wouldn’t give clear answers and people felt he had a hidden agenda. “That’s why I’ve come out and I’ve been very forthright on what my agenda is and what my policies will be,” she said. She said she would ban sex-selective abortion, criminalize “coerced” abortions, and end international funding for abortion services.

Voila (from the comments section):

Oh, it will drag on. It will be the new normal Canadians will wake up to everyday:

In my view, the very best thing that could happen to Canada is for these blockades to drag on for a few more weeks and for train traffic in central Canada to shut down entirely. Short(er) term pain would certainly result in some longer-term, country-wide enlightenment and gain.

Too many Canadians believe — wrongly — that this country and the world no longer need oil, gas and pipelines to thrive.

Indeed!

Coronaviruses balance themselves ... or something:

Canada's Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O'Regan announced Tuesday afternoon that he is going into self-isolation after seeing a doctor for a "persistent" head cold.

Oh, sure ...

**

But ... but Canada is, like totally prepared and stuff!:

The regular flu season adds an extra layer of stress, Fontaine said, because workers know an influenza outbreak can already be “incredibly deadly” in the population they care for. COVID-19, deadlier than the flu, adds new tasks and pressures to the day-to-day. Workers are spending more of their time doing “enhanced cleaning,” reassuring anxious family members and monitoring the supply of now-hard-to-replenish goods such as surgical masks.

In a normal year, facilities will put a box of surgical masks by the front desk in case visitors want to use them. Not anymore. “I’m getting reports from our members and beyond that the boxes are disappearing. The masks are gone and we just don’t have enough to be able to hand them out,” said Fontaine.

Because money grows on trees:

The Canadian government will reveal Wednesday how it plans to support businesses and workers hit by the economic impact of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.

**
Canada is looking to soften the blow of the new coronavirus outbreak on airlines as part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s efforts to support the economy as the disease spreads, a senior official said on Tuesday.

**

I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about:

The coronavirus could hit 35 to 70 per cent of the Canadian population, making “a huge number of people ill,” many critically, and makeshift hospitals and quarantine centres could be needed to shore up a health system that has virtually no give, experts predict.
**

Why would China lie about any of this?:

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday made his first visit to Wuhan since a coronavirus outbreak forced an unprecedented lockdown of the central city of 11 million people, in a sign that authorities’ efforts to control the virus are working.

How many people have been buried alive, Xi?

A good thing that the Americans were there:

U.S. and Canadian fighter jets have intercepted and escorted two Russian reconnaissance planes flying off the coast of Alaska, only days after Canada's top general described Russia as the greatest immediate threat to North America.

Canadian CF-18s and American F-22s were scrambled Monday after the North American Aerospace Defence Command spotted the two Russian Tu-142 Bear aircraft approaching the Alaskan coast, Norad said in a statement.

The Russians remained in international airspace over the Beaufort Sea north of Alaska for about four hours before departing, according to Norad. They approached within 50 nautical miles, or 92 kilometres, of the Alaskan coast, but did not enter U.S. or Canadian airspace.

Stay classy, Joe:

U.S. Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden on Tuesday angrily turned on an auto worker at a campaign stop when questioned whether he was going to take away people’s guns.

“You’re full of shit,” Biden told the man who accused him of “actively trying to end the Second Amendment.”
