Harrowing footage shows sick people lying in the corridors of a packed Madrid hospital as Spain's coronavirus cases soared to 33,089 and the death toll reached 2,206.

Patients are seen sprawled on a tile floor, with some appearing to be hooked up to oxygen tanks and IV drips.

Some of them can be heard coughing and spluttering as they lie on towels and coats awaiting beds in the emergency department of the Infanta Leonor Hospital in Madrid on Friday night.

The Summer Olympics in Tokyo has been postponed:

The International Olympic Committee has decided to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games because of the coronavirus pandemic, IOC member Dick Pound told USA Today.

Aryeh Even was just a teenager when he arrived alone in Israel from war-ravaged Hungary, a survivor of the Holocaust who built his life and family as the Jewish state was building itself. On Sunday, Israel mourned the 88-year-old as its first victim of the coronavirus, grieving with rituals adapted to the pandemic that killed him.

Even’s body was carried to the cemetery by a burial party in biohazard gear, photographs of the private ceremony show. The funeral was limited to 20 mourners, each keeping at least six feet apart from the next. The nurse who cared for Even in his final days apologized on social media that his body could not be washed in the ritual way, as antiviral safety protocols now trump tradition.

The boon euthanasia-enthusiasts have been waiting for:

An Israeli doctor working in the northern Italian city of Parma, told Israeli TV that the number of patients is continuing to grow and that authorities are not allowing those over 60 who are ill access to respiratory machines.

Israeli doctor Gai Peleg told Channel 12 that families of the terminally ill are being allowed close contact with the infected loved one, breaking quarantine.
