And the Rest of It

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is toying with the idea of opening up the province:

Canada’s largest province is finally moving to reopen its economy, as Ontario Premier Doug Ford released a long list of workplaces that can reopen on May 19 and some outdoor activities — including golf — that can start on Saturday.

The new list is “Stage 1” of Ontario’s plan to reopen, and comes after the province has seen a slow but steady reduction in daily new COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks. On Tuesday it announced 258 new cases, its lowest number since late March.

“Today’s news is good news,” Ford said at a news conference Thursday afternoon. “Our efforts are paying off and if we follow the medical advice, if we take our time and get it right, then we’ll be able to open more businesses, get more people back to work.

“We have a long way to go, we have a long road to recovery. But let’s take some time today and be grateful for how far we all have come.”

Wednesday, three Ontario Superior Court judges — in polite legal language — agreed an ill wind was blowing. They reversed Yurek’s order, saying he was being unreasonable with his intervention and had no authority to suddenly raise the issue of bat mortality when it wasn’t central to the appeal from a local opposition group.

If by "society" one means morally lazy people who threw away their values and let a corrupt, shiftless and mafia-like government assume control over an entire province then, yes, "society" has certainly failed the elderly, O He Who Deflects Blame:

Legault took some responsibility for the repeated failures to bring the contagion in Montreal under control, especially within the city’s long-term care homes, where the majority of the province’s deaths have occurred. But it’s Quebecers as a whole, he said, who have let this happen to Montreal.
“I think the society failed,” he told reporters.

Also:

The government has confirmed that five members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who have been helping at Quebec's long-term care homes have been infected with coronavirus, according to Journal De Montreal.

"The women and men of our armed forces have always been ready to take risks to protect Canadians and have always been there to serve in difficult times, in appalling situations," said Prime Minister Trudeau during the press release.

He added that the government would take the "necessary actions" in order to limit the number of CAF cases.

Vultures.

The elderly people you didn't even want in the first place are not even in their graves and you talk about replacing them:

Federal Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino says bringing newcomers to Canada will be essential in the post-pandemic era.

The trafficked don't vote Liberal:

Canadian women's organizations working to support women and girls who have been sexually exploited by men say that Justin Trudeau's liberal government will not renew federal funding. Programs will close as a result.

Some people are so special that they can have their gatherings but no one else can have a Seder:

Canada’s Indigenous services minister says banning sacred ceremonies is a “dark stain” on the country’s history and they will be allowed to continue despite restrictions put in place due to COVID-19.

“Even in the face of a historic pandemic, Canada must not and will not prohibit these important practices,” Marc Miller said Thursday.

But Easter Mass isn't important.

Right.

Mmmm .... cheesecake:

As Ontarians weather the third month of this coronavirus pandemic, Premier Doug Ford has an idea in his mind: let them eat cheesecake.

After teasing his social media followers with snapshots of his hand mixer bowl-deep in some batter, the head of Canada’s most populous province on Friday finally revealed the recipe for his “famous premier’s cheesecake.”
